The Challenge

The South Bank Corporation manages the South Bank urban precinct and the team is heavily involved in communicating and delivering services to a wide range of customers. As part of this ongoing commitment, South Bank had looked at channel options to drive an increase in the number of users in their marketing database.

The Corporation had determined to run a specific campaign, a key component of which would be a standalone touch screen application to be based in physical kiosks throughout the South Bank precinct.

omniEffect was requested to design and develop a standalone Touch Screen application:

  • Document requirements, design, build, test and deploy the application for users to enter the “Little Stanley Street Supper Club Experience” competition
  • Enable data export for information to update the Corporation database

South Bank Corporation were looking for a partner that could take over the entire application lifecycle, and deliver with quality and to a timeline and budget – in a new technology space and a new marketing channel.

The Solution

Starting Out

  • The initial omniEffect goal was to help South Bank brainstorm the ideas around touch-screen interfaces and relate the options back to the capture of data of individuals at the South Bank kiosks.
  • The second goal was to take on and co-ordinate the project with design, development, testing and deployment to the kiosks ensuring a successful rollout.

Delivery

  • Having worked with South Bank to create application and interface ideas, omniEffect designed the User Interface, going through layout, wireframing and screen design prototyping.
  • Development of the application.
  • Rollout and testing on the purchased kiosk hardware.
  • Training and handover to the client (South Bank).

Conclusion

  • The application was delivered to the client both on time and on budget.
  • The delivered application exceeded client expectations, and with consistent service, this resulted in a happy client that had achieved all project goals.
  • Southbank successfully captured new users – more than the initial goal number for the project – and increased the number in their marketing database.

Client Quote

South Bank Corporation engaged omniEffect to develop a touchscreen kiosk application in July 2010 following brainstorming sessions about creative ways to collect contact details of our visitors to the precinct for future marketing communications.
Working closely with our allocated Project Manager throughout design, wireframes and layout, development and testing, we were particularly impressed with the attention to detail, especially in testing to ensure we were fully satisfied with the user experience and the data output. omniEffect added commitment to the project by liaising with the hardware supplier enabled development to progress effectively, providing us with piece of mind and confidence given the short deadline.
Receiving over the 500 new subscribers during the one-day event execution, South Bank Corporation were extremely satisfied with the application and look forward to working with OmniEffect to build upon this concept and other projects in 2011.
